Trainspotting
We were given a choice of three or four movies to see and then design a corresponding book cover. The goal was use metaphors from the movie, without making the design a "movie poster".
I felt the major struggle that the main charactor from Trainspotting had to deal with was the constant ups and downs and highs and lows throughout his life. At some points he was quitting drugs and living clean, at others he was in a deep hole of depression and drug use.
I represented this using stairs. I arranged the letters in the title climbing up the stairs which would lead your eye to the top. Then I used the small figures falling down a hole to bring your eye to the bottom of the design. It creates a constant cycle of ups and downs that the main character had to face. The colors were throw-backs to the late 70's and early 80's which I felt was the setting for the movie. |
